Setting Up an A3 Size Magicolour File in Photoshop and Verifying Print Quality.

This tutorial will guide you through setting up an A3 size Magicolour file in Photoshop and assessing the photo’s quality for printing. If the photo appears blurred, resulting in jagged edges, instructions will be provided on how to rectify this issue.

Step: 1) Open Photoshop and create a new file for A3 size. Set the width to 29.7cm and height to 42cm. Ensure the resolution is 300 dpi, the colour mode is CMYK, and set the background contents to transparent. Finally, click on the “Create” button.

2) Drag your image into Photoshop. Then, resize your image to fit the A3 dimensions (29.7cm width x 42cm height) in Photoshop.

3) Create a new layer beneath your photo, and check if the edges appear smooth. You may notice jaggedness or excessive blurriness. To address this, utilize the Polygonal Lasso tool to select the jagged areas and delete them.

4) Once you have deleted the jagged areas, hide the layer and proceed with the following steps:

4.1) Use the Magic Wand tool to select the clear background.

4.2) Click ‘Similar’ under the SELECT menu.

4.3) Invert the selection to choose your photo.

4.4) Click ‘Contract’ under MODIFY, contract by 1 pixel, then click OK.

4.5) Navigate to the ‘Channels’ menu and choose ‘New Spot Channels.’ You’ll notice your photo is now covered by a red color, representing the white ink beneath the photo.

Zoom in to observe the treated edge’s smoothness.

Once all edges are treated, save the file as TIFF and upload it to https://files.magictransfer.co.nz/. Please remember to copy the download link and email it to: [email protected].
